The tour turned out to be a bit of scam, we got ripped (and really angry) – but in the end, we saw some great water villages and markets. We ate coconut candy, drank snake wine (which tastes like rice wine, and has a snake at the bottom of the bottle), and Julz bought her conical hat (even though she insists she never buys tourist memorabilia, mmmmhmmm..). The 8 hour boat ride to Cambodia was great – we spent lots of the time sitting on the roof of the boat, sailing past stilt houses and eating tamarinds – delish.
We only managed to stay here for one day.. Julz and Tim went off to the Cu Chi tunnels and some other sights around. Later that night, we tried the last of Beer Hoi. It was so disgusting it wasn't finished, surely a first for all involved. The next day, we started a Mekong Delta 3 day cruise which took us around the Mekong, then up into Phenom Phenn, Cambodia.
A beach town where we didn't do very much but lie on the beach and get sunburnt. But, Tim and I had been looking forward to a beach for a LONG time, so it was much appreciated and we had loads of lovely swims and beers on the beach... unfortunately we also had some truly horrible cocktails, made with local spirits, that looked like something from Cob&Co and tasted like something from a dental clinic. You get what you pay for, and we're on a budget thinner than a Versace model.
